| Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ was born in 1959 in a remote village, Pinani of Pauri district of Uttarakhand. His early childhood lacked in many aspects due to his financially humble background. Despite this, the brilliance of his intellect stood out. |

| He initially served society as a teacher and later as a journalist. His political journey started in 1987 as the central spokesperson of the Uttar Pradesh (now Uttarakhand) Sangharsh Samiti. In 1991, he was elected as an MLA from the Karnprayag Assembly. In 1996, for the first time, he became a Cabinet Minister in Uttar Pradesh. |

| With the establishment of the Uttarakhand state, he became the Finance Minister and was handed over 12 important departments. In the year 2007, he became the Cabinet Minister and in 2009 the Chief Minister of the State. He was elected as a member of the sixteenth Lok Sabha of India from Haridwar with an overwhelming majority of MPs. Re-elected from this Lok Sabha in the year 2019, he has now taken up the important responsibility of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. |

| He is recognized in the country and abroad as a writer, litterateur, poet, sensitive thinker on the Himalayas and the Ganges. He has kept sensitive issues of Himalayas and Ganges in the Parliament. His contribution to Ganga cleanliness, especially by leading Sparsh Ganga campaign, has encouraged active public participation for the cause. |

| About 15 people has either completed or doing research on his literature. He has written more than 75 books. His books have been translated into every Indian and many foreign languages. More than 15 countries had honoured him. Our country is constantly benefiting from such an honourable Education Minister. |
