Molecular Biology
The Department of Molecular Biology at the Central University of Andhra Pradesh was established during the academic year 2022–23. The Department commenced its flagship Programme of M.Sc. in Molecular Biology and has since expanded its academic offerings to address to the cater the young minds in emerging areas of biological sciences.
The Department is committed to provide a strong foundation in modern biological sciences through interdisciplinary education, innovative research, and advanced laboratory training. It nurtures creative, ethical, and independent ability for stakeholders by integrating contemporary biological disciplines with cutting-edge technologies and hands-on learning. The Department of Molecular Biology currently offers four academic programmes: M.Sc. in Molecular Biology, M.Sc. in Genomic Science, Post Graduate Diploma in Bioinformatics and Data Science, and Post Graduate Diploma in Green Energy and Environmental Management. Guided by experienced faculty, these programmes foster critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and research excellence, preparing graduates for successful careers in academia, healthcare, biotechnology, genomics, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, industry, entrepreneurship, and other science-driven sectors.
Our frequently updated curriculum provides personalized academic guidance, extensive laboratory training, and exposure to contemporary research methodologies. Students are encouraged to develop scientific independence, analytical thinking, and research competence through project-based learning, seminars, internships, and hands-on laboratory experience. Laboratory courses are carefully designed to complement classroom instruction and provide students with opportunities to design experiments, interpret data, and master a wide range of modern molecular and biochemical techniques employed in biological research. Students are encouraged to undertake internships and research projects at leading universities, national research institutes, hospitals, biotechnology industries, and other premier organizations to gain practical research experience.
The programme provides opportunities for project-based learning under faculty mentorship, enabling students to develop laboratory skills, scientific inquiry, data analysis, and problem-solving abilities. These experiences enhance research competence, professional exposure, and career readiness for higher education, academia, research, and industry.
Duration of the course: 2 years
Eligibility: any graduate from life sciences
Requirements for course completion: The student must complete a minimum of 80 credits for the award of Masters in Molecular Biology. Of these credits, 40% must be obtained through online mode which may be via MOOC or any other recognized platform.
A surplus number of credits can be secured by the student if they are interested and equipped to do so by enrolling in different courses and obtaining a certificate of completion in the form of add on courses.
